Today, I embarked on a musical journey through the intricate and profound world of Johann Sebastian Bach. His compositions have always fascinated me, and I decided that it was finally time to dedicate some serious practice to his works. The sheer depth of emotion and technical challenges found in Bach’s music make it a rewarding and humbling experience for any pianist.

Piece: Prelude in C Major (BWV 846)

I started today’s practice with one of Bach’s most iconic pieces: the Prelude in C Major from “The Well-Tempered Clavier.” It’s a deceptively simple piece, with a seemingly straightforward melody, yet it’s loaded with hidden complexities. The main challenge here is achieving clarity and balance between the voices while maintaining a steady tempo.

I spent a good portion of my practice time on the initial measures, carefully working through each hand separately. The right hand plays a series of broken chords, while the left hand provides a continuous, flowing bassline. The counterpoint between the two is mesmerizing, and I found myself lost in the music as I gradually brought the two hands together.
